Community Cash
Community Cash
Every couple of months we get together to get behind some good community ideas.
We often meet in the evening at one of the local community centres. Local people are invited to pitch their ideas.
We invite ideas for anything that brings the community together. Ideas can be led by young people, neighbours, or community groups. Each idea can be pitched for up to £200. We’ve supported all kinds of ideas, like Christmas films, fun days, and water sports for young people.
We also support business ideas for people who might want to try something out or grow something that would benefit the community. People can bid for up to £250. We’ve supported ideas like Chair Yoga and face painting businesses.
It’s a really informal affair. We have a brew and a biscuit, or maybe a bite to eat. We listen to pitches, and then everyone in the room gets a chance to vote. There are four ways to vote. You can vote to fully fund or part fund the idea. You can also vote to say the idea isn’t ready or that you don’t want to support it.
Whilst the votes are being counted, we hear updates from the people who were supported at the last cash event. They come back to tell us more about how they spent the money.
We also have one of the organising group members, Ben, who has great accountancy skills. For anyone who is a bit worried about keeping records of the money spent, they can lend a hand, and we can provide a cash book too.
It’s always an uplifting evening when we get together. Sometimes, people can feel a little nervous about getting up in front of others to share their ideas. Often, people come first as audience members to see what it’s like and then decide to take the plunge!
